Peladans will go to the polls this week to decide whether three large windmills should be built in low-lying areas near Olgas. The proposed windmills would increase the airflow across lower Pelada, and with the increased airflow and turbulence induced by the traditional Dutch blades, both biting and fornicating opportunities for local mosquitoes are expected to fall by up to 60 percent.
The Dutch-style windmills, designed by legendary local architect and neck tattoo guy Donald Loria, were inspired by Loria’s recent three-year sojourn in the Netherlands. “I went there just to receive another award,” said Loria. “But they asked me to design their new coastal defense wall against the rising oceans. I proposed a similar wall for Playa Guiones when I came back. But they only had money for that strange little tower they built on the beach.”
Local businesses are heavily in favor of the measure, pointing to potential savings on AC bills and leaf blowing. Olgas, in particular, has been lobbying hard for the windmills, believing the added breeze in the afternoons will allow them to book Takun to play even more often – perhaps even four or five times per week. “It’s a win-win, really, said Olgas spokesperson and community liaison Yorleny Ortiz Baltodano.
Asked for his opinion, Takun smiled softly and began to play a blistering Santana solo leisurely up the neck of his guitar, weaving in dozens of finger taps and deeply pleasured nods.
