Del Mar adds Organ Donation as payment option

Seeking to accommodate struggling local parents, Del Mar Academy has added organ donation to its list of payment options. “Eventually, parents will be able to use this option to fund other parts of the Del Mar experience,” said Helena Carter, enrollment specialist at Del Mar. “School uniforms, lunches, field trips, and surf camps. Larger donations – such as lungs and limbs –  will earn the donor a prepaid Del Mar Visa card that can accrue frequent flier points and cash-back rewards.”

Carter went on to confirm that Jab and Go, the new IV Infusion and Ayurvedic Center next to the Lock and Go, will serve as the official Del Mar transplant center, with several of the infusion chairs already being modified for day surgery. A freezer from Price Smart – installed just steps away in a nearby Lock and Go unit – will serve as the Del Mar organ repository.

“Our goal is a seamless, completely local transplant experience,” said Carter. “We want to lower the bar not just for parents and siblings, but also for visiting friends and family who might pitch in with a kidney or a limb while visiting.”

“It’s a great idea,” said Jimbo Truing, Surfing Nosara partner, himself a transplant recipient. “Grandma Betty or Uncle John can donate a kidney in the morning, and be in a yoga class or having a late lunch in Pelada by mid-afternoon. There’s no reason organ transplants shouldn’t be seen as part of the awesome Nosara lifestyle.”

Sources inside Surfing Nosara tell us that ‘organ transplant’ will soon become part of the standard Surfing Nosara property description. Prospective buyers will now see every house described as follows:  “Secluded tropical oasis with ocean views  –  just steps from the beach, yoga classes, and world-class organ transplants.”

As long-time Nosarans know, Truing – a former military intelligence officer and winter warfare expert – was involved in an unfortunate landmine incident in the far north of Finland some 20 years ago, which resulted in him receiving the glittering blue eyes of a young female husky – the best that the local vet could do.

Local realtors have often vented privately to Nosara Lately that Truing’s eyes give him an unfair advantage in a highly competitive local real estate market. “If I had his eyes, I could sell twice the lots,” said an unnamed Century 21 agent.

Del Mar parents are cautiously optimistic about the new payment option. Several pointed out that the prospect of an organ transplant might discourage unwelcome visitors from the states who ‘just wanted to sleep on the couch for a few days’. Others questioned the Lock and Go freezer solution, wondering out loud about what would stop Lock and Go customers from just helping themselves.

“Every step forward in life requires change and experimentation,” said Carter, echoing the rather long-winded motto of Del Mar.

“And sometimes a kidney”, muttered one parent.
