It has not been lost on most of our faithful readers that plant medicine seems to be the new yoga here in Nosara – and clearly this has not been lost on the Nosara Conservation Alliance (NCA). Nosara Lately can now report that the NCA has decided to establish a Plant Medicine School in the Maritime Zone.

“We see this as being a natural fit for both the NCA and the Maritime Zone,” said newly hired NCA spokesperson Alejandro Serrano Obando at a hastily called press conference in front of the Asada offices today. “The NCA’s core mission involves biodiversity, and everyone knows that there are a shit ton of plants and frogs in the Maritime Zone. There is no reason outsiders should dictate or control the medicines and plants that rightfully – and naturally – belong to Nosara.”

Alert readers have sent Nosara Lately photos of announcements posted on bulletin boards at the Bodhi Tree juice bar, Organico, and Rinde Mas – all seeking a qualified director for the Plant Medicine School. These notices appeared to have been hastily done in Canva, with stock images of cilantro, arugula, and women in yoga clothes doing something on their MacBooks. When questioned more directly about their familiarity with ‘plant medicines’, the NCA spokesperson admitted to Nosara Lately that he did not know much about them, but that he remembered his abuela knew a lot about them. “She used them to heal up scraped knees, and whenever we had the runs.”

He was quick to add that if no sufficiently knowledgeable local candidate was found, the search would expand, with the goal of hiring a qualified candidate from a recognized Costa Rican agricultural school.
