Unexplained explosions near downtown Guiones over the last several weeks have sparked concern among local residents, but the cause has now been identified. Sources in the local business community have confirmed that work is underway on an underground pedestrian mall that will link Organico and Café de Paris.
“Our employees were simply risking too much crossing the road all day long,” said Organico’s 14-year-old day manager, spokesperson, and stop-sign-guy Hermano Rodrigues. “Our shirts are green, and they blend in with the jungle. We thought long and hard about changing to bright orange shirts, but that would have been a real branding disruption for us.”
Nosara Lately reached out to the National Car Rental guy, who has been standing just below the intersection for no apparent reason for more than 15 years. “My shirt is also green,” he commented, somewhat sadly.
Originally envisioned as a simple tunnel, the project has now grown into a full-fledged pedestrian mall, with prime locations already leased to Cinnabon, Sunglass Hut, and LuLuLemon.
Anticipating the reduction in pedestrian traffic, Nicoya is preparing to raise the speed limit on the National Road to 80 km/h between Bodhi tree and Rinde Mas. Closed-door discussions are reportedly underway about relocating Nosara’s entire fleet of beloved tuk-tuk drivers and their families to San Juanillo.
“It’s a natural move,” said Nicoya rural road expert Rafael Marín Barrantes. “San Juanillo has more of an old-school tuk-tuk vibe. We think they will be very happy there.”
Barrrantes is also in charge of the light rail system that will connect Barco Quebrada with Garza. Construction is envisioned to begin in 2027, funded by the new “energy exchange” tax now being rolled out locally.
