Area cacao merchants and organic food stands are relaying the news to each other that local police will again half-heartedly attempt to shut down the Tuesday market in Guiones next week, before disappearing completely for the next few months.
“That’s fine, I needed to go see my friends in Tempe for a week,” said local monkey-foot talisman artist and part-time breathwork instructor Amanda Sparklecloud. “I feel a little sorry for the kids who come from Tamarindo to sell hash pipes and teak spoons. They never hear about it and always show up and get hassled by the cops.”
“It’s tough,” said a local Tico organic juice producer. “My juices don’t keep, so when they show up, I am screwed.” Then, looking carefully both ways to make sure no one was looking, he lowered his voice and leaned towards our reporter. “You wanna buy some fresh baby goat meat? I got some right here in the cooler. Cutlets? Baby ribs?”
Our reporter was shell-shocked. For years, rumours have swirled that freshly-butchered goat meat was to be had at the Tuesday market – if you knew who to ask. And now, Nosara Lately itself was being lured into the market’s secretive meat-trafficking underground.
Our reporter declined – but fear not, loyal readers. Nosara Lately will return in two weeks, after the random police action, and bring you more details on this little-known, sordid underbelly of the Tuesday market.
